first direct ventures into iPhone technology

fd_hqfirst direct, the first UK bank to have created a mobile banking application for the iPhone, is reporting a massive 600 per cent growth in users in its first year.

The ready-to-use application was developed specifically for first direct’s technology savvy, forward-thinking customers. The application includes a dedicated homepage (firstdirect.com/iphone) that provides first direct customers with a seamless experience of Internet Banking. To make it even easier to access firstdirect.com from an iPhone or iPod Touch, customers can also add the first direct icon to their home screen.

In 2008, firstdirect.com was visited via an iPhone over 250,000 times, with total visits seeing a 600 per cent increase in just 12 months. It is anticipated that the usage of the service on the iPhone is set to further increase in 2009.

Jenny Southwell, Head of Digital Marketing at first direct, said

“The first direct iPhone application allows our customers more control over their banking, whatever their needs. first direct consumers are savvy and financially aware – they want applications and technology designed for their lifestyles. first direct customers can use their iPhones for all their banking needs – from accessing their bank balances to making payments and applying for new products. This allows our busy customers to manage their lives on the go, offering yet another opportunity to use their time efficiently.”
