First Direct android app almost here!
First Direct were early to market with their iPhone banking app, but it hasn’t changed a great deal for some time, and a First Direct Android app has been lacking much to the annoyance of many of First Direct Android phone users. Well good news, they are about to release a new Android and iPhone mobile banking app. Sounds like it should be quite a significant improvement on the existing app, which has limits on how many transactions you can see, and the new app promises a slicker and easier to navigate interface. Some things are still missing, such as setting up new payment destinations and the security does not use any of your phones security, so you’ll still need to enter the same password characters and memorable answer.
You can register your internet in the apps here: http://www2.firstdirect.com/1/2/banking/mobile-banking-app
We’ll be doing a full comparison of the old vs new iPhone apps once the new one is available for download, as well as a review of the long awaited Android app.
A few people have been complaining on First Directs Facebook page that there should be a blackberry, windows phone and iPad app too. The size of the market for Windows/Blackberry is small by comparison, but we feel FD should really have apps for these platforms in the pipeline by now. As for iPad – while this would be useful, to be honest you can easily access the full online banking experience via Safari on the iPad, so we don’t feel this is as important.
What do you think? Let us know in the comments… if we reach 50 comments for this post we will pick somebody at random and email them a £25 iTunes voucher.
What about a Windows Phone app? With the release of Windows Phone 8 this is a rapidly growing market segment and as such Fist Direct customer who use WP expect to be supported.
Looking forward to the First Direct Android App! I use FD on my samsung all the time but an app will be loads betterr!
